FLASH DESIGN

FLASH BANNERS FOR A SPORTSBOOK Back in 2004 I was hired on into a sportbook of which I was very happy to be a design team member for a period of over four years and a half. The main reason for me to be hired back then was that I could do some flash animations, and also 3d design. And the guy in charge of the design department at the time wanted to do some banners which involved 3d animation and related to the main sports categories covered by the sportsbook and to be placed on the top header area. So given the required size for each flash banner and freedom to go about how I wanted them to be animated (one of the reasons I loved working there was that I was always given true creative freedom - which is not the same as oraly being given that creative freedom but in real practice having it denied) these where the results I acomplished:

FLASH WEBSITE for Suplitodo S.A. A simple and quick flash website I had done for a design media company back in 2005, it was fun working on the 3d models and 3d animations for this flash movie. Back from when the white background with 3d elements was in style, around 2003-2006. All 3d objects created by me and as the flash animation and interactivity as well. I honestly prefer a html + css + javascript website, with good semantic html architecture to any website done in flash, because I believe it's more important to rank well in search engines and have more database friendly updatable dynamic content, than pretty and cool transitions and animations. The web is about information with clean, direct and nonsense delivery. At least that's my philosophy. That's probably them main reason why I never got into learning Action Script.

FLASH INTERACTIVE BANNER FOR A SPORTSBOOK This is an example of how 3d can be done with a cel render, using a swf export plugin for 3ds max (the swift3d export plugin for 3ds max). Hit the Next and Back buttons to watch several animated objects, that where rendered originally from the 3d objects I had done, but where rendered in this cartoon flat color style to provide frame by frame animation that would load quickly because of the size of each frame introduced into the flash animation. I find this to be a very practical solution to having 3d objects that move in a 3d space, without having to use a movie or very heavy animations composed of raster images instead of vector images.

FLASH BANNER ANIMATIONS for a sportsbook More random flash banners of the kind done for sports events mostly, around which a sportsbook's schedule orbits. All are done with static linear animations, no action script. I did a lot of this when I was working for this sportsbook. The good thing to me was, that the emphasis was never placed on the flash banners (which helped out a lot with the marketing campaigns of course) but more in the correct html, css and back-end structure of the website. Again, I want to make the point that to me Flash is not the almighty solution for websites (by far) but I'm more of the opinion that flash animations are DECOR and should never be the STRUCTURE of a website.

FRAME BY FRAME VECTOR 3D ANIMATION MADE FOR A FLASH GAME Simple things can be made to look a lot better if 3d animation is introduced, even when it's done in cel render. In this case, a friend wanted to build a Russian Roullete game in flash, and needed a quick and simple animation of the gun being loaded and later having the barrel rolled just like in the real Russian Roullete game. This flash game was never done I think, but it's still a good example of 3d being used in a flash movie, even though there's no real 3d here, just cel render frame by frame animations.
